Fresh off the back of the resounding success of Barbie, Ryan Gosling is back making action movies… and we couldn’t be more thrilled to see his upcoming release. Here’s everything we know about The Fall Guy.
Back in 2020, there were murmurs of a new action movie in the works that would bring celebrated John Wick director David Leitch together with Hollywood’s favourite son Ryan Gosling… and fans were, naturally, very excited.
It was then confirmed that the pair would be taking on a reboot of the much-loved TV series The Fall Guy, which first debuted on our screens in the 1980s. Of course, Leitch and Gosling’s remake will still maintain some nods to the original, such as the names of the main protagonists – although, as expected, will feature some much-needed contemporary twists.
Here’s everything we know about The Fall Guy
The Fall Guy Cast
Ryan Gosling will lead David Leitch’s The Fall Guy as Colt Seavers, an experienced stuntman whose best years are probably behind him, but that still doesn’t stop him from showing up and killing it on set.
Emily Blunt joined the cast as Jody Moreno, Colt’s former fling who finds her ex on the set as she’s about to direct her first feature film.
Winston Duke will play Colt’s best friend and stunt coordinator on set, whilst Hannah Waddingham is Gail, a big-time studio executive. Aaron Taylor-Johnson will play runaway action hero, Tom Ryder, who goes AWOL in the middle of filming for Jody’s big feature.
The Fall Guy Ryan Gosling
2024 Critics Choice Award winner Ryan Gosling has dusted off the biker jacket and is making his long-awaited return to the action comedy genre.
That’s not to say that the Canadian actor hasn’t enjoyed a successful hiatus in the last year, delivering an award-winning performance as Ken in the cultural hit Barbie in 2023.
Gosling returns to the big screen as Colt Seavers, a past-it stuntman who has enjoyed a bit of a break of his own, but gets the surprise of his life when he takes a big role in a huge production, realising that his new director is a former girlfriend.
Sporting uncharacteristic shoulder-length hair and a full beard, Gosling was almost recognisable from the bleach blonde look of a well-known Hasbro doll as he was spotted filming around Sydney, but it’s good to just see him back in the genre.

The Fall Guy Director
Before The Fall Guy director David Leitch was helming big budget action blockbusters, the American filmmaker was actually earning his stripes as a stuntman and stunt coordinator, stepping in for Brad Pitt on occasion – most notably for Pitt’s scenes in Fight Club.
Now, Leitch is a celebrated director and writer, known for his work as co-director and executive producer on the iconic John Wick movies, as well as Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde and on the set of Bullet Train reuniting with star man Pitt.
Leitch said that following the SAG-AFTRA strikes that affected more than 60,000 workers, he wanted to support more than just working actors on screen. “Stunt people and all the blue-collar crews were struggling this year as we had our labour strikes,” Leitch told Entertainment Weekly. “They’re the ones that really make the magic happen. I just thought it was time to tell a story from their perspective.”
Well, what better way to direct a movie about stunt performers?
The Fall Guy Plot
Colt Seavers is a washed-up stuntman who has been forced to take a break from the industry in order to take care of his physical and mental health – it’s a tough old job, after all. But when Seavers takes on his first job in over a year, he gets the surprise of his life to discover that the director (Emily Blunt) is an old flame from a relationship that did not end well.
When the starring man (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) goes missing in the middle of filming, Seaver is nominated by a studio exec (Hannah Waddingham) to locate him and drag him kicking and screaming back to set, to save Jody’s film.
“They were trying to kill me… and not in a fun way.

The Fall Guy Sydney
On 22 January 2023, Sydneysiders were surprised to discover that the Sydney Harbour Bridge had closed for several hours in the middle of the day.
Commuters who regularly use the bridge to get to and from the city were encouraged to take the train that runs adjacent to the bridge as an alternative transport route and were rightly surprised to see Hollywood action hero Ryan Gosling surfing off the back of a car at high speed.
It’s estimated that The Fall Guy has generated a significant boom to the local economy, opening more than jobs to 1,000 Australian cast and crew and hiring more than 3,015 Australian film extras.
Notable filming locations throughout Sydney include Martin Place, Kurnell, Sydney Opera House and of course, the Harbour Bridge.
The Fall Guy Release Date Australia
The Fall Guy is set to be released on 3 May 2024 in cinemas in Australia.
